Rugs – The New Centerpiece

When it comes to living room design, most people in the past have chosen a coffee table or a table featuring an ornament of some kind, perhaps a vase as the centerpiece of their room. This idea is one that has stood the test of time but more and more people are now opting for more minimalistic designs for their living rooms and the clutter and large centerpiece idea is fast becoming the thing of the past.

More and more we’re now seeing plain, minimalistic layouts with their floor containing nothing but a contrasting rug to set off the rest of the room. I must say, I am a huge fan of this minimalistic and modern design style. I think there is no better look than a plain, wooden floor with a bright rug as the centerpiece. I realise that when we think of rugs, we thing of plain, boring, ragged pieces that are used to wipe your feet on. But, with the designs out there currently and the offerings in many of the popular furniture stores, rugs are fast becoming the main focual point of any modern room.

Rugs can also help the room look a lot larger than it really is. Especially if the rug design is extremely detailed and is placed on a relatively plain floor backdrop. This effect, when combined with a large wall mirror can almost make the room appear twice the size it really is and both of these options are relatively inexpensive.
