Matching Your Textiles – Get Creative

If you’ve browsed around your local textiles store recently, you’ll have no doubt have noticed how much choice is out there when it comes to bed linen, curtains, towels and other textile items for around the home. This isn’t a bad thing, I realise that people have a very specific view on how they want each of their rooms in their homes to look and will no doubt want to choose textiles that match. But, what I don’t understand is why people just accept other peoples styles and designs? Home textiles is an area where anyone can get creative and can often come up with something a lot better than the offerings in the stores and more often than not, by creating something custom you’ll end up with the exact look you want that will match the rest of your furnishing completely.

I am not talking about creating your own curtains or bed linen from fabrics and sewing them up yourself. I’m talking about combining different pieces from different sets to achieve a unique look. How often do we buy a duvet set that contains matching bed cover and pillow cases? Try buying a couple of different sets and swapping the pillow cases from one with the other for example.

The same goes for your curtains. Try having a set that matches something else in your room as opposed to just matching your bed linen as most people do. By combining different textile sets you can make your room look extremely unique and match other elements of your room at the same time.
