Home Furnishings – Pop Art

Planning how you want your room to look is quite a difficult task. I guess that’s why interior designers are paid so much money! One part of the room that is often overlooked though are the walls. People pay lots of attention to their carpeting or flooring and pay equal attention to their furniture and centre pieces, but the walls should not be neglected either. I get asked often, what should I place on my walls. Should I opt for a centre mirror, some photos or perhaps some abstract art? Personally, I’d say neither. Go for Pop Art. I realise that Pop Art is mainly aimed at and purchased by the younger generation but it really can set off a room nicely. I don’t think who or what the paintings depict is too important, it’s more about the colours used and how it appears when combined with the colours of your room.

There is lots of talk in the art and design world of warm and cold colours and this is very true when it comes to paintings. If your room features warm colours such as red, organge, yellow, then choose a piece of art to match. Do not contrast. The same goes if your room consists of cold colours.

Of course, if pop art isn’t your thing, you can find some fantastic abstract pieces that really set off your room well. The beauty of abstact art is that you can find pieces composing of colours that match your room 100%.
